Trucking HR Canada will host its first symposium on mental health in the workplace, October 30 in Mississauga.
The event brings together employers and a variety of leading subject matter experts and is designed to support trucking and logistics employers in addressing the topic.

In any given week, it’s estimated 500,000 Canadian workers cannot work due to a mental health issue, and the cost of a disability leave is about twice the cost of a leave due to physical illness. A US study has shown that truck drivers are more prone to depression and anxiety than other occupations due to the time alone and away from home.

“Increased awareness about the impact of mental health in the workplace has implications for trucking and logistics employers,” says Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. “From health and safety, to overall HR approaches – this symposium will start the conversation on what these implications are, and what we can do to help employers address them.”

The symposium, Gearing up for Workplace Mental Health, is a first step in increasing understanding and raising awareness on the importance of mental and psychological health in the workplace. As part of Trucking HR Canada’s larger initiative to support employers on this evolving issue, the event will provide guidance on the implementation of practical resources and strategies for all occupations within the sector. The half-day event will take place at the Centre for Health and Safety Innovation in Mississauga, running from 9am to 1pm. For more information, visit www.truckinghr.com.
