At the recent AGM, members of the PMTC elected Terrapure Environmental’s Brad Fletcher to the role of Chairman of the Board, taking over from John Harrison of CPC Logistics Canada. Private Motor Carrier caught up with Brad in early July to find out about his history in the industry and how he is enjoying his new role.

As Logistics & Emergency Response Manager for Terrapure Environmental, what are your responsibilities?

I am accountable for overall management of the transportation fleet, customer service and dispatch team within Terrapure, ensuring that transport related activities are safe, compliant and profitable.I’m also accountable for the development and implementation of revenue vehicle plan including all maintenance, third-party spending and fleet utilization.

Can you tell us a little bit about Terrapure Environmental?

Terrapure provides a broad range of industrial waste management, environmental and recycling services – from highly technical and complex to fast and easy. Terrapure manages virtually every waste stream in virtually every industry, from coast to coast. The company recently added industrial services and industrial cleaning to the mix with the acquisition of Envirosystems Incorporated. 

How did you get into the private trucking industry and can you briefly describe your career in the industry?

I started 20 years ago with Air Liquide Canada (ALC) as a payroll clerk. Learning the industry and learning the logistics side of the business became a passion. I moved on to dispatch, to Logistics Supervisor, to Distribution Manager for Ontario. Along the way, I was fortunate enough for ALC to support my education, getting a Professional Logistics Degree and a Supply Chain Management certification from Schulich School of business. In 2015,
I decided to make a change to Terrapure. It has been a great career move for me to learn a new industry, but also to take over the Emergency Response group and a facility in Tonawanda, NY on top of the role for which I was originally hired – Ontario Logistics Manager.

When and why did you become involved with the PMTC? Describe your time as a member.

I started with PMTC 15 years ago by just attending a conference every year. Over the past seven years, I’ve taken a more active role building to my recent election as Chairman of the Board. My involvement with PMTC has helped me develop my networking skills, knowledge of compliance and new developments in the transportation field, and I have made some great business relationships.

Is the PMTC in good shape?

I think PMTC is in great shape! I believe that Mike Millian is really getting the PMTC brand out and ensuring that the group is in good standing. With all this hard work and with support of the entire PMTC team, membership has grown exceptionally in the last few years, and I feel this growth will continue in the future.

How would you describe the new Board of Directors?

The PMTC Board of Directors is a great group of leaders in transportation. Collectively, the group has a vast and deep knowledge of insurance to driver training to transport equipment manufacturing, and everything in between.

What are the new Board’s immediate priorities?

Our Board of Directors will continue to push the PMTC brand, while making sure to balance the financial side of the business. Our main goal is to ensure we continue to represent our members’ views and act in their best interests when it comes to consulting with various levels of government on their behalf. It is an exciting time for PMTC.

What are your thoughts on the recent PMTC Conference in Niagara Falls?

Niagara Falls and The Crowne Plaza-Fallsview Resort are always great venues with a lot of fun and interaction happening with the vendors. As always, the presentations were very well done and quite educational. The constant changing of topics helps to keep the Conference fresh.

What is the next PMTC event?

Our next events are the regional seminars scheduled for Nova Scotia on September 6 and Calgary, Alberta on September 12.

When you aren’t at work or at a PMTC function, how do you like to spend your time?

I have three kids that keep my wife Laura and me very busy. If I am not at the hockey rink for my two girls, I am playing twice a week myself. We live an active life with lots trips to the gym, walks, and running after our two-year-old son.
