Ted Harvey, Study Director for the Ontario Truck Stop Survey, says deadline has been extended to April 30, for the driver survey and June 30, for the overall study deadline. Harvey states, “We have made good progress with the truck driver survey, but more responses are very important in order to portray real truck driver needs. Currently, we are passing 1,700 driver responses to our survey, and the data is very high quality, showing high levels of attention from drivers.”
Harvey says respondents have given assessments of parking difficulty for 25 highway segments (the average responding driver rates 7+ highway segments they use, giving over 12,000 ‘specific highway point’ ratings). And respondents gave over 30,000 parking and service ratings for 70+ truck stops. He concludes, “We believe that commercial truck drivers know the most about parking, so we are inviting all drivers who utilize Southern Ontario highways to complete our survey (including drivers who are based outside Ontario).”
Harvey says the study will be adding a small survey of carriers.
The survey, funded by the Ontario government, asks about the need for parking and the hardships shortages cause for drivers in lost time, lost earnings, frustration and aggravation. The survey is in both English and French and can be found at www.spr.ca/trucking/survey.htm and www.spr.ca/camion/sondage.htm.
