April 27 marked the inaugural National Recruiting and Retention Symposium at the Centre for Health and Safety Innovation in Mississauga, Ontario. Packing the hall were representatives from carriers, industry suppliers, insurance groups and more from across North America.
Organizers awarded the first National Recruiter of the Year Award, sponsored by L3 Driver Solutions, to Leanne Quail, Operations Manager at Paul Quail Transport. Wayne Snow, Director of Business Development and International Sales for L3, presented the award.
Leanne’s creative and innovative approach to combating the driver shortage features her program Smart Start. This joint venture with the provincial and federal governments has seen many successful candidates get funding to obtain their AZ license and move into driving careers for Paul Quail Transport.
In addition to her program, delegates heard details of Leanne’s involvement with the PMTC’s Young Leaders Group, her participation with the Fleet Safety Council,
The Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario and her volunteerism with different community associations.
A surprised and emotional Leanne expressed her reacyion on social media saying, “I am still speechless. Receiving this award means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who snuck around behind my back and made this a very special moment in my life.”
Charlie Charalambous, Director of Client Services at ISB MEE and Symposium Chair, said, “The selection committee reviewed all of the candidates, all with
great experience, but Leanne’s passion and commitment stood out above the rest. She is a great young leader who is working hard to make our industry better.”
Organizers are reviewing all of the data and feedback and will be announcing next year’s event soon. The plan includes building on the momentum and success of this year and will include a National Recruiter of Year presentation once again.
