The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada announced the winner of the 2025 PMTC President's Award at its Annual Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario on June 18th.

This award was first introduced at their 2015 Conference and has only been presented to four previous recipients at this point, Bruce Richards in 2015, Richard Lalonde in 2017, as well as Dennis Shantz and John Harrison in 2022. To be eligible for this award, the recipient must be, or have been, an employee of a PMTC member company, a director, or a representative of the PMTC.

The individual will be judged to have contributed to some, or all of the following:

  • made an outstanding contribution to the PMTC, or the industry in the previous 12 months, or during their career.
  • contributed to the development and improvement of the PMTC and the transportation industry.
  • offered leadership in program activities or in a demonstrated commitment to the council.
  • promoted the core values and benefits of the PMTC to other members and non-members.
  • has been actively involved in the PMTC and transportation industry as a whole.
  • made a positive influence on the PMTC and the industry.
  • promoted the PMTC and acquired new members.
  • offered his/her time to assist with the PMTC conference, presentations, activities, ceremonies, or any other events.

This year's recipient, Kevin Riley, qualifies on a number of levels.

Kevin first joined the PMTC in January of 2002 with SG Transport. It did not take Kevin long to make his mark and become heavily involved with the PMTC and was first nominated and voted onto the board of Directors in June of 2002. Kevin remained on the board for over 22 consecutive years, until circumstances required him to hand in his resignation in October of 2024. Kevin served as the Chair of the PMTC from 2008 till 2010 and served 8 years on the executive committee. Even when Kevin was not on the executive committee, he was still involved as much or more than anyone else. Kevin was not on the board just to have his name there. Kevin attended and participated in the majority of our quarterly board meetings throughout his term. After Covid, when virtual attendance of board meetings became an option, Kevin was one of the faces you would still count on seeing in person, even if the board meetings were a 5 plus hour drive from his home base, or a flight away.

Kevin participated in several sub committees during his time with the PMTC, including The Benchmarking Subcommittee, the Conference Committee, the By Laws review committee and the Conference Awards Panel, among many other pop up committees as they came along. You could always count on Kevin being involved at every board meeting, providing his feedback on industry issues as well as feedback on items to improve aspects of the PMTC. Kevin hosted several PMTC Board Meetings as well as educational seminars at the facilities of Maple Leaf Foods, where he worked for his last several years while volunteering with the PMTC. Kevin was instrumental in garnering the support of Maple Leaf Foods and attended our conference and other events throughout the year and brought Maple Leaf on Board as a supporting sponsor at most events.

In addition to all the above, Kevin always heavily encouraged customers and contacts of his to attend PMTC events and consider joining the organization.

PMTC President Mike Millian commented "I first met Kevin at the 2002 conference, one in which I attended as a non-member of the PMTC. Kevin was one of the members I connected with at that conference. Kevin's passion for the industry, and his pride in the PMTC was evident. This played a large role in me becoming involved further. I have no doubt the conversation between Kevin and me occurred numerous times with other people who attended PMTC events and were new to the association. Kevin's time and commitment to the PMTC, as well as the Industry, makes him very deserving of this award, and one that I am glad to honour him with"
