In the late 1990s early 2000s there was global discussion on the need for harmonization opposite health and safety (especially markings) for workers. Every country was onboard conceptually, but it took years for agreement. The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) came into effect in 2012. GHS covers all hazardous chemicals and may be adopted to cover chemicals in the workplace, transport, consumer products, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. The target audiences for GHS include workers, transport workers, emergency responders and consumers.

The trucking industry has been abuzz recently over ELDs. The use of these systems to electronically record driver logging data is now required in the US (unless you use AOBRDs, in which case you are grandfathered-in and won’t have to move to a true ELD until December 2019) and Canada will follow suit shortly.

The PMTC is happy to announce that its newest member service product is now available. Effective July 9, the new PMTC Driver Qualification System is live and accessible to PMTC Members. Powered by ISB Canada’s Making Eligibility Easy (MEE) Division, this customized system will now provide PMTC members the ability to order their driver qualification and requalification documents at a steeply discounted rate.
