AGENDA ANNOUNCED FOR PMTC 2023 CONFERENCE AND AGM

Milton, ON: The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada has announced the full agenda and schedule for its 2023 Conference.  “Each year those who attend the PMTC Annual Conference tell us it is one of the best educational and networking values they receive in the transportation industry. We believe this year’s line up of speakers continues to build on that reputation”, says PMTC President, Mike Millian.  “As a result of the growth of the conference and sell outs for both sponsors and attendees for the last 2 in person conferences, the PMTC is excited to be moving to a new venue this year, the Hamilton Convention Centre. The new venue will allow for improved flow in the sponsor’s exhibit area as well as better sightlines and spacing while attending our best-in-class educational seminars. “

The conference will kick off the afternoon of June 21st with the Annual General Meeting for the membership.

On the evening of the 21st , the PMTC Young Leaders Group & TruckRight will host our annual Pre-Conference Cocktail Reception for conference sponsors, speakers, the PMTC Board of Directors, all registered conference attendees, as well as all PMTC Young Leaders Group members. In 2022 the pre-conference reception was attended by over 200 people, a new record! The reception will be held in the Sponsors Exhibitors’ Showcase area to provide more value to our conference partners and those who attend the pre-conference cocktail reception.

On June 22nd, starting at 8 am, the educational portion of the conference will begin and continue into the 23rd.  Mixed in with this will be the PMTC awards program as well as several networking opportunities.

A schedule of topics and events is listed below, and the full brochure with details, and registration is up on the PMTC website at www.pmtc.ca. (Conference agenda and schedule subject to change with out notice)

PMTC appoints 2nd Vice Chair and 2 additional Board Members

At a recent board meeting the PMTC Board unanimously voted to name Angela Munsterman, Specialist, Transportation Compliance with Coca-Cola Canada Bottling Ltd, as the new 2nd Vice Chair of the PMTC Board. This appointment was made to fill a vacancy that was left earlier in the year as a result of staff movement in the industry. “Angela has been a member of the PMTC Board of Directors for the last 2 years and has been a valuable contributor to our industry and association for many years prior” stated PMTC President Mike Millian. “On behalf of the entire board, I look forward to continuing to work with Angela in her expanded role with the PMTC, and we know she will represent us and the industry well.

The board also voted to appoint two additional members to fill out vacant board roles for the remainder of the term. Effective today, Andy Walker, Ontario Distribution Manager for Molson-Coors, and Patricia Burke, Coordinator, Fleet Safety & Driver Training for Canadian Blood Services, will join the PMTC Board of Directors for the remainder of the 2022/2023 term. “We welcome the addition of two excellent PMTC industry representatives and look forward to the value and insight they will bring to our board to help guide our Council moving forward”, commented PMTC Chair Steve Lawn.

The PMTC is governed by a board of not less than 16 and not more than 25. Board Members serve 1-year terms, except for directors, who serve 2-year terms. Board terms run from June 30th to July 1st of each year. Bylaws indicate the board must consist of at least 60% Principal Fleet Members”. The current board term expires on June 30th of 2023. Elections for the board occur each year at the Annual General Meeting of the Members in June, and members can be appointed by the board to fill vacancies that may occur throughout the term.

E-Bulletin

January 23/2023

Today the Province of Quebec has published it’s ELD regulations, that will make ELD’s required for Provincially Regulated Carriers as of April 30th of this year. While the PMTC is in full support of ELD’s and are in favour of full enforcement for federally regulated carriers, as plenty of notice was provided to comply, an announcement by Quebec with a timeline of slightly over 3 months to comply for Provincially regulated carriers is concerning to our Quebec members who are Provincially regulated only. Our office will be reaching out to express our concern and encourage a slightly longer runway for Industry. Please see below for the link to the full announcement.

QUEBEC CITY , Jan. 23, 2023 /CNW Telbec/ - The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Ms. Geneviève Guilbault, in collaboration with the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), announces that From April 30, the electronic logging device (ECD) will be mandatory. Operators of heavy vehicles will therefore have to equip their vehicles with an ELD allowing them to record their hours of work and rest.
