PMTC & KRTS announce recipient of the Professional CMV Driver Training Scholarship

The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada, along with sponsor KRTS, announced the recipient of the Professional Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Training Scholarship at its Annual General Meeting & Conference in Niagara Fall’s, Ontario on June 19th, 2024.

“The skill and professionalism that is required of today’s professional drivers is increasing with each passing year,” stated PMTC President Mike Millian. “For an entry level driver entering our industry to have the best chance possible to be successful, it is imperative that they receive the best in class training that is available. This scholarship, which provides training that is TTSAO certified & MELT approved, provides just that. We are thankful to KRTS for sponsoring this award and making this scholarship possible.”

To be eligible to receive this award, applicants must have no more than 3 points listed against their Motor Vehicle Driving record. They must have no impaired, dangerous, careless, or similar driving convictions in the past 3 years. Must have no criminal code convictions or must have received a pardon or a waiver. The applicants must also have a conditional job offer as a professional driver, or a related field, pending successful completion of the Training Program. The applicant also had to be nominated by his or her employer, had to submit a resume and a 650 to 1000-word essay stating why they thought they were a good candidate for the scholarship and what their personal goals within the Transportation Industry are.

The 2024 recipient is Thilan Bulner, employed by Tandet Dedicated Inc.

Thilan began working for Tandet Dedicated in November of 2021 as a DZ operator. Since starting with Tandet, he has worked hard to ensure that customer service is 2nd, only to safety. While with Tandet, Thilan has also become a valuable mentor amongst his peers & is continuously striving for improvement as a team member.

Thilan enjoys the opportunity & support he is given every day by Tandet. He has been cross trained on different product types & delivery trucks which has allowed him to gain a wealth of knowledge regarding offload procedures, product identification, & customer site details. Thilan wants to use the opportunity this scholarship presents, to be able to expand his flexibility & become even more valuable to the fleet, while at the same time continuing with his own career growth. In his time at Tandet, Thilan has worked hard to build lasting relationships with his customers & looks forward to continuing to grow with Tandet. Thilan believes upgrading his DZ to an AZ will allow him to increase his knowledge of the trucking industry, & become better equipped to be more flexible, allowing him the ability to work with Tandet in its various divisions.

For its part. Tandet indicates that after Thilan successfully completes his training at KRTS & obtains his AZ license, they will place him with a mentor for a minimum of 1 year to build his skillset & set him & Tandet up for success going forward. We commend Tandet for this approach & partnership with Thilan.

PMTC & KRTS both congratulate Thilan on receiving this much deserved training scholarship.
